Bustos hopes to make most of House Appropriations Committee assignment

Western Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has a new role in Washington. She is now serving on the House Appropriations Committee. Bustos says it isn’t just a win for her – but a win the state and the region. “It means that every cent of the federal dollars that is (to be) spent on highways, or education, or healthcare, I will be voting on the committee level for all of that,” Bustos said. “I think the best way to look at it is, once again, our part of the state of Illinois has a seat at the table where we are making those decisions.” She added that it’s the most powerful committee in the House of Representatives. Bustos will also continue to serve on the House Ag Committee in the new session of Congress.

Bustos also on Thursday, February 21st participated in a “Cheri on Shift” at Main Street Codes in Galesburg. It was the 78th “Cheri on Shift” job-shadowing event she has held since becoming a Member of Congress. Main Street Codes is a nonprofit coding school, set to open in the beginning of March, that provides classes to those living in Galesburg and the surrounding area. The goal of Main Street Codes is to promote a skill set that can lead to new job opportunities for those in the region.
