Distrct 205 Board member resigns and decides against re-election

A member of the Galesburg School Board who had been seeking reelection from her seat on the board representing areas of the district outside Galesburg Township, has instead resigned from the board early.

District-205 Superintendent John Asplund confirms Amy Pickrel resigned from the board last week. Pickrel was two months shy of serving one full term on the board, and had been running to retain her seat in the April consolidated election.  Instead, Asplund says under the law, the District-205 Board has 45 days with which to appoint a replacement for Pickrel. That expires March 30th, so Asplund says with that so close to the election, whoever is picked and approved to serve will do so for two years, and then the seat will be up for election for a full four-year term.

It’s not clear why Pickrel resigned. Four board members represent Galesburg Township on the board, while three represent the areas of the district outside the township.
