3-year old boy identified as victim of Monmouth house fire

Authorities are now saying the previously unidentified victim of a Monmouth house fire on Friday night was a 3-year old boy.

Azazel Fischer is being named as the deceased.

Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat said on Friday that several individuals sustained burns trying to help an individual, now known to be Fischer, escape but his injuries were already fatal.

Firefighters responded to the 800-block of North 1st Street and despite the tragic loss of life, the fire was brought under control quickly by responding crews.

Chief Rexroat says the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but is being investigated by the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Illinois State Police.

Arrangements were pending as of Monday morning for Azazel Fischer but are being handled McGuire and Davies Funeral Home in Monmouth.

A relative has set up a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral expenses. https://www.gofundme.com/azazel039s-funeral?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fb_dn_cpgnstaticsmall_r&fbclid=IwAR21CSZZR4lZBI_IiyL7BX356jpPKXScUEKvL8OcWg1l55-OuSfV_GzrolQ

Almost $1,400 had been raised in a day as of 5 p.m. Monday.
