Knox County YMCA to offer around-the-clock warmth — plus, other local warming centers

The following is a statement from the Knox County YMCA regarding how they are helping residents in need during the current dangerously cold weather.

The Knox County YMCA, 1324 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg, IL, in conjunction with the United Way of Knox County, will be open as a warming center for area residents from Tuesday, January 29th at 5:00am through Thursday, January 31st at 9:00pm. Please bring a sleeping bag, pillow and a towel if you are able. The Knox County YMCA will be staffed throughout this time to serve residents in need during the upcoming inclement weather.

Illinois Dept of Human Services at 477 East Main in Galesburg

Fire stations in Oneida and Wataga are open.
Other fire stations in rural towns also available if needed.

Faith United Methodist Church at 876 E. Knox St. in Galesburg will be available:
Tuesday Night (01/29) 6PM to 10PM
Wednesday (01/30) 8AM to 10PM
Thursday (01/31) 8AM to 4PM

The Abingdon Community Center (former Care Center on West Martin Street (west of the High School) will be open 24 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. People are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bag.

The Woodhull Town Hall will be open until Thursday as a warming center.
