Tax Filing season kicks off Monday, January 28th

The start of tax filing season is Monday, January 28th.  You can start filing both your state and federal taxes. Illinois Department of Revenue spokesperson Terry Horstman says they urge taxpayers to e-file. “The Department of Revenue is reminding taxpayers filing tax returns electronically and requesting direct deposit into either a checking or savings account is still the fastest and most secure way to receive a refund,” Horstman says. Horstman says the state will continue to focus on identity theft and fraud prevention. New this year – taxpayers who receive an ID verification letter may authenticate their identity online instead of the regular mail. The department of revenue’s free online account management program can be found here.
