Hammond remains optimistic as 101st General Assembly sworn in

The 101st General Assembly was sworn in yesterday and an area legislator who faced a tough re-election battle is going back to work.

93rd District Representative Norine Hammond won her re-election bid in November over Democratic challenger John Curtis, after a tough primary battle with Joshua Griffith of Abingdon.

Hammond, a Macomb resident, called it an honor to serve the people of the area and says she remains optimistic. “As always I’m optimistic and I’m hopeful that this General Assembly we are able to make some positive changes for the State of Illinois and certainly for the residents of Illinois.”

Hammond and 14 other GOP representatives were critical votes in the summer of 2017 to get the state’s budget approved.

Along with the budget was a tax hike that brought the income tax from 3.75 percent to 4.95 percent.
