Bustos sworn in for fourth term

Rep. Cheri Bustos, representing Knox County and the 17th District in the U.S. Congress was sworn in on Thursday.

The 116th Congress was seated as Democrats took the Chamber’s majority for the first time since 2011 and with that Nancy Pelosi is again Speaker of the House.

Bustos not only began her fourth term in D.C. but is weeks into a new role as Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, making her the only Midwesterner in Democratic leadership.

She says despite the 17th District’s challenges, “families across our region never give up” and they “deserve representation in Washington that works just as hard to get results.”

Bustos in her statement indicates priorities for her and the party will be investing in infrastructure, bringing down health care costs and driving out “rampant corruption.”

The 116th Congress is historic for having the largest number of female lawmakers ever, which includes Bustos, the first woman to represent the 17th District.
