Council goes forward with exploring new use for Broad Street Armory

Galesburg City Council has hired an architectural and design firm to do a feasibility study on the Broad Street Armory.Trillium Dell, a local company that constructs and restores timber frames would like to use a portion of the under-utilized building for storage, building, packaging and shipping out.

City Manager Todd Thompson says that even if the study determines the Armory isn’t ideal for Trillium Dell’s use, it would help find what costs there might be for other potential uses.

EA Architecture and Design Inc. was approved to the study by a 4-0 Council vote.

City Manager Thompson was questioned on how this study differs from one that was conducted only a few years ago.

“The study that was done by Farnsworth really evaluated the armory and what would need to be done with respect to improvements to make it into a multi-use recreational center,” Thompson says. “It included the full scope of improvements well above and beyond what would be needed in this case.”

EA’s building study is costing city taxpayers $7,200.
