Three wards to have contested Galesburg City Council races in 2019

Galesburg City Council will have contested races in three of four of the wards where seats are up in April 2019.Today was the final day that candidates could turn in their petitions to be on the ballot in 2019 for local school boards and city councils.

Peter Schwartzman is the one Galesburg incumbent who will go unchallenged, giving him a clear path to a third term, barring a write-in campaign.

The race to replace Jeremy Karlin in Ward 7 will pit longtime Galesburg Public Works Director Larry Cox against local attorney Ashley Worby, both making their first runs at office.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Angela Bastian will be challenged by realtor Bradley Hix.

Ward 3 incumbent Russell Fleming will get a challenge from Lindsey Hillery.

District 205 has four seats up in 2019 and four candidates running meaning we likely already know who will be seated in the spring.

Amy Pickrel and Rodney Phelps are running for the two out-of-Galesburg-township seats, while Tianna Cervantez and Courtney Rodriguez will run for the two in-township seats.

Abingdon-Avon has three seats up with only Board President Anthony Brooks seeking another term, Dedra Mannon and Carol Kreider are stepping down.

Brooks will have competition from Travis Hess, Kory Tinkham, Tiffany Dowell and Brady Mason.

Knoxville School Board has a lack of candidates to fill the four seats that are up meaning unless there’s a write-in campaign then the board would need to appoint someone.

Tammy Myers, Jeff Johnson and Rebecca McCracken all have clear paths to another term.
