Gov-Elect Pritzker stopping in Galesburg Monday to say ‘thank you’

Gov.-Elect J.B. Pritzker is touring the state thanking volunteers and voters that carried him to victory last month.Pritzker will be stopping in Galesburg Monday as a part of a thank you tour.

Galesburg favored Pritzker strongly over Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, handing the Democrat a 19-point victory locally, the largest margin for a gubernatorial candidate since 2002.

Pritzker and Lieutenant Gov-Elect Juliana Stratton will be stopping at the Kensington Ballroom for noon to one Monday.

Knox County Democratic Central Committee Chair Pam Davidson says this is a “non-partisan” event open to anyone interested in meeting the state’s next governor.

Pritzker helped the Democrats retain their majority on the Knox County Board according to Davidson.

The Knox County Democrats win aided Davidson’s re-election as County Board Chair last Monday, although she also jokes that maybe Knox County Democrats boosted Pritzker to the Governor’s Mansion.

Galesburg voters went for Pritzker so heavily in her view for several reasons.

“I just think they were ready for a change, going two years without a budget, doing things that was promised to us and didn’t come through and using scapegoat of Madigan, Madigan, Madigan, Madigan,” Davidson says.

Pritzker and Stratton are also stopping in cities including Rock Island, Peoria and Rockford in this three day swing.

Not all the communities he’s stopping in necessarily supported in him in the gubernatorial election.
