Festival of Trees Fundraiser Thursday, November 29th at Discovery Depot

Thanks to a fundraising campaign and generous donors the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum in Galesburg has nearly met its goal of $1.8 million in less than two years. The Depot’s efforts continue November 29th with the 19th Annual Festival of Trees. Tonight’s fundraising efforts are for operational costs for the Depot for the upcoming year. Renovation work to the building, as part of the Depot’s capital campaign, is all but complete and the event tonight will take advantage of the new and expanded space on the building’s second floor – an additional 7,300 square feet. The expansion has included a new elevator, electrical system, fire sprinkler system and HVAC system. Other changes include more parking on the east side of the building. The second floor will include popular and new exhibits like the air and water exhibits and a new farming exhibit. Tonight’s event will officially unveil the 2nd floor. The night includes a silent auction and a live auction that begins at 7:00 pm. Executive Director of Discovery Depot, Denise Bradburn says if you’re looking for some holiday decor, there’s something for everyone. “There will be two large trees on live auction,” Bradburn said. “The rest of the greenery throughout the museum is for sale. We have everything from wreaths, swags, centerpieces, wall hangings, foyer trees – anything you can imagine for the holidays we have here. So it goes well beyond just the Christmas trees.” Live and silent auction items also includes gift certificates, event outings and decor. Other auction items include a jersey signed by Chicago Bear Mitchell Trubiksy and a silver bat signed by Chicago Cub Javier Baez. The Festival of Trees begins at 5:00pm until 11:00pm and is for adults only. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
