County Board approve FY 18/19 tax levy and budget

The fiscal year 2018/19 Budget and Tax Levy were approved Wednesday night by the Knox County Board.

Board documents indicate that the tax rate remains the same at $2.70, while the levy increased with EAV.

Board president Pam Davis addressed the attendees before the vote, “Please tell all your friends and family, [the county] did not raise your taxes.”

Brian Friedrich, the county finance committee chair, thanked all those involved in the budgetary process for their dedication to getting the work done. “I’d like to thank everybody that’s on the finance committee for all the work on the budget, and for all the department heads and treasurer’s department. That helped [to get] the budget under control at the end of the year. It’s always a battle. We always seem to give up our month of October and first of the month of November to get it done.”

Outgoing board member Dick Conklin recognized Treasurer Robin Davis specifically during his final board comments for her work on the budget during his time serving the county. ”

“Every year we go through the budget, and every year it’s a three-month process, and every year she’s got to sit down and prepare all those reports and bring tons of papers to the meetings. We have multiple evening meetings and she’s got to educate different people every year on how the budget works. So, hats off to her for all the additional time she puts in.”

Board members approved both items unanimously.
