A Knoxville man was killed in a single vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Illinois State Police, at around 3:11 a 2003 Dodge van traveling along Illinois 119 in Warren County was driving at a high rate of speed and left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned several times.

The driver, 18-year-old Scott M. Monroe of Tremont, Illinois, was allegedly distracted at the time.

The passenger, 25-year-old Christopher C. Sage, was allegedly sitting in a modified seat with a modified seat belt that failed to function properly, causing him to be ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Monroe was transported to OSF Holy Family Medical Center with minor injuries.

Responding to the scene was Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service, Roseville Fire and Rescue, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Coroner’s Office, and McDonough Power Company.
