Busy night for the county board

It was a fairly busy meeting for the Knox County Finance Committee as nearly two-dozen items were discussed and action was taken on nearly all of them.

The county board approved a the fiscal year 2018-19 budget, as well as the tax levy for 2018 – which several board member stressed was kept the same from last year. Also approved was a freezing of the county’s building fund with exceptions being made for emergency work in an effort to build up the fund for bigger projects. A contract with Mark Thomas, the county coroner, for secretarial work from Watson-Thomas Funeral Home was approved at a cost of 36-hundred dollars a year. Other approvals include the county’s audit, payment of dues to the Illinois Association of County Boards and National Association of County Officials – which totaled out to being $2,558.

After months of running a deficit and being in the red, the Knox County Nursing Home is finally in a positive state, financially. That’s after a nearly $156,000 loan from the Nursing Home Referendum account was forgiven last night by the Knox County Finance Committee. Knox County Treasurer Robin Davis detailed the specifics of the October finance report, highlighting the positive Nursing Home fund. “The good thing is, you have no funds in the red this month and I think it’s important to state the nursing home is positive in the amount of  $150,850.77 – doing a fabulous job,” Davis said. Davis added that she looked at the nursing homes outstanding bills, and estimated payroll and determined they’d end the year positive.
