Henry Hill to receive deferred maintenance project funding

It was announced over the weekend that funding was being released to the Henry Hill Correctional Center for deferred maintenance projects.

93rd District State Representative Norine Hammond says the Galesburg prison will be getting $1,759,600 to upgrade touchscreens and speakers in housing units.

In a statement from the Macomb legislator, she says “Through the passage of this year’s balanced bi-partisan budget, we were able to address some of our state’s deferred maintenance.”

Hammond says that the correctional facility will be replacing cell lock controls and intercom systems in the housing units, inmate cell lock controls, computers, software, and intercom systems.

“These improvements will make for a safer working environment and give prison employees the peace of mind that comes from knowing that equipment won’t fail them,” she added.

Henry Hill is one of two correctional facilities in Hammond’s district getting part of $6.8M for deferred maintenance.

The other being Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling, which is upgrading their dietary equipment, and security control system with around $5.1M in funding. Part of that funding includes the replacement of the fire alarm system throughout the facility and the cell lock controls in both the housing units and receiving area.
