1st Annual Rail Bender Trail Classic Sunday, November 11th

There’s an 8K trail race taking place today that strays from the beaten path. The 1st Annual Rail Bender Trail Classic is Sunday, November 11th at Lake Storey Park beginning at 9:00 am. The race will is a Euro-style trail run through the north side of the park’s trails with water and debris crossings. Sponsored and organized by Drew Ponder and 6140Run, the race takes advantage of some natural local beauty. “The idea (behind) this trail run – it’s something different,” Ponder said. “It’s not your everyday 5K on the road. That’s why I’m really excited about it: to show Galesburg and the surrounding communities what a beautiful park we have out there at Lake Storey and the hard work that went into making those trails. So we can take advantage of that and get some people out there and enjoy a nice, crisp, Sunday morning run in the woods.” The race will feature $100 cash prizes to the top male and top female finishers, custom-made rail trophies for winners, plus door prizes. There will be refreshments and snacks post-race. Participants can sign up to win bluetooth headphones, shoes and socks from 6140 Run. If you haven’t registered, you can register at the race – the cost is $35.
