Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign needs volunteers

For over 150 years, an organization which started with clergy and ministries helping the needy in communities across the world is still active in Galesburg helping those in need. Starting on November 12th, the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign will get underway. The campaign helps the organization with funding year-round. The Salvation Army helps provide camps, social services, veterans programs, re-homing programs, the Pathway of Hope and case management services to those less fortunate. Captain Lisa Thorson with the Galesburg Salvation Army tells WGIL when you donate, you’re helping your neighbors.

“Food insecurities and homelessness is very wild in Knox County,” describes Thorson. “We want to partner alongside anyone who wants to help us that’s why we try to make sure we are good stewards and try to meet the needs of anyone who comes through our doors. The need is there and we want to partner with everyone to come along side us.”

This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 – so volunteers are needed. Along with the season, last year the Salvation Army provided gifts for over 1,200 children through the Angel Tree program. To volunteer, stop by the Salvation Army office at 5-10 North Kellogg Street or call 342-91-68.
