Area schools above state average in graduation, and other metrics

The latest Illinois School Report Card shows an increase in the number of students enrolling in college with some Knox County Schools above state levels – and some below. The Illinois State Board of Education collects most of the data in the Illinois Report Card from school districts through data systems such as the state’s Student Information System, throughout the school year. Principals directly enter items and can update these at any time.State Superintendent of Education Tony Smith says the data is really encouraging. “We’re at about 75% of students who graduate within 12 months are enrolling in college and that’s up from just over 68% just four years ago,” Smith said. Locally, Williamsfield District 210 leads the county with 79% of students enrolling in post secondary education, while Abingdon-Avon District 276 trails other districts with 62%. All districts are above state average in Graduation Rate. Williamsfield leads the way in Knox County with 92% of seniors graduating, while Galesburg District 205 although still above state average – trails in the county at 86%. There are several new metrics such as Chronic Truancy.
Truancy is defined as: students absent without a valid reason for 5% or more of regular school days. The state average is 11%. ROWVA District 208 leads the county with only 2% truancy – Galesburg District 205 trails the county at 19%. All districts in the county are inline with the state’s attendance rate, 94%. Again, ROWVA is just ahead of state average at 96%. The state average for students enrolled in community colleges who require remedial coursework is 46%.
