13th Annual Trunk or Treat on Halloween at Bethel Baptist Church.

The 13th Annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event is tonight at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. If parents and trick-or-treaters are looking for a safe, alternative trick-or-treating site both indoors and outdoors, the yearly event caters to both. The church on Wednesday, October 31st has transformed into the equivalent of 30 stops in one. Rick Stufflebeam of Bethel Baptist tells WGIL this year’s theme is “Under the Sea.” “We’ll have some opportunities for people to stop and get photos – group photo booths,” Stufflebeam said. “All our rooms are themed differently this year. We’re doing Under the Sea, but we’ve got a Narnia theme this year, we got an Alice in Wonderland themed room….Jurassic Park…..we’ve got a Star Wars theme room. So there’s an opportunity for them to experience that.” Organizer Kristine Trone says the free event is like a one stop shop. “We usually have about 30 trunks,” Trone said. “So if you think (it’s) about 30 houses. Once you’re in the parking lot, you don’t have to worry about cars and traffic. Kids can walk through the parking lot  – which for me, as a mom, is a huge thing – physically being safe. Then having supper available too – that’s a win-win for parents.” Church members and volunteers will be directing traffic and guiding visitors through the indoor and outdoor display. The church will feature “The Little Mermaid” playing in the sanctuary and Beach Boys music playing throughout the building. Hot dogs will also be available to guests. The free event is from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm tonight – Bethel Baptist Church is located on the corner of West Fremont and North Academy Streets in Galesburg.
