Galesburg Election Commission warns of lengthy early voting lines

Election Day is one week from today.

As WGIL reported last week early voting continues to gather steam year-to-year but also Galesburg Election Executive Director Lisa Watson also says it picks up closer to Election Day.

While Watson says citizens can vote early at City Hall up until Election Day, she warns that lines can get lengthy at her office.

She emphasizes that the commission wants people to vote when its best for them but also wants to make the public aware that it may be faster to vote at your Election Day polling place at this point.

She points to the fact that City Hall has two employees while polling places will have a large team of election judges.

You will need to go to the election office at City Hall to register and vote in the same day, whether on Election Day or early.

As on Monday afternoon, Watson says 2,100 votes had been cast early or by mail, which is already a 26 percent increase from the early votes cast in Galesburg for 2014’s midterm elections.
