Safe Harbor to hold 25th annual “Take Back the Night” rally Tuesday

Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center officials say the help they give to victims of domestic violence is continuing.

That’s why the center is hosting its 25th annual “Take Back the Night” Rally at Lake Storey Pavilion Tuesday night at 5pm.

“It’s really just to raise awareness about the problem of domestic violence in our community,” says Lindsay Kelso, Safe Harbor’s Volunteer and Community Education Coordinator. “And, just giving everybody a chance to stand up and speak out about domestic violence.”

Kelso tells WGIL if you think domestic violence only impacts females, you’d be wrong.

“This past year, we helped over 600 individuals in the community,” says Kelso. “We helped over 300 women, a little under 100 men, and right around 300 children as well. It’s pretty similar to the year before. Unfortunately, domestic violence isn’t slowing down.

And that’s not just cases of domestic abuse, either. Kelso says that can also include instances of stalking or harassment.

Some domestic violence survivors will be on hand Tuesday to share their stories of survival.
