Rauner helps cut ribbon on Knox County Brewing Company

Persistence paid off for one of the children of the owners of the Knox County Brewing Company — as an e-mail-writing campaign by one of Matthew and Sara Hansen’s kids led to Rauner stopping at the brewery Friday, located inside the Sustainable Business Center.

But Rauner says it’s the type of business he should visit, because he thinks things he has helped do for small businesses — and farmers — should get him re-elected.

“There’s a lot of regulations I’ve reduced for farm families,” says Rauner. “I was the first Governor in Illinois history to declare a Harvest Emergency to get the regulations off so late in harvest season so farmers can put more of their crops into trucks, and raise the limits on the weight of the trucks so they can get their product to market at the end, when time is crunched at the end of harvest.”

Rauner says it’s businesses like the one started by Matthew and Sara Hansen, that make this part of Illinois what it is.

“It’s innovation,” says Rauner. “It’s getting the flavors and mixing ingredients and making a fun product. That’s what this is about. This can bring visitors, tourism, economic growth, more opportunity, and a fun way to share with our friends and neighbors.”

Rauner again repeated a call to reform the workers compensation system, and claims that his opponent — JB Pritzker — wants to raise taxes on everyone, which allegedly would stifle any small business growth.

The Knox County Brewing Company officially opens to the public Saturday afternoon at 2.
