Haunted Houses, vendor fairs, and the return of the Knox Galesburg Symphony this weekend

A couple of haunted houses return this weekend for another round of spooks and chills. Shadow Realm Haunted House at 2015 Windish Drive is organized by Gilson Boy Scout Troop 233. After haunting in the villlage of Gilson for many years, organizer Sam Burdick says they got lucky with the move to Galesburg. “The Executive Director of KCCDD approached us and had an opportunity with a building that had all the requirements that we needed,” Burdick says. “We’ve been there four years and it’s been a great fit for us. After a whole lot of hours of work, we managed to turn it into, what I think is a pretty decent haunted house.” Shadows Realm Haunted House is Friday, October 19th and Saturday, October 20th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The cost is $10 with fast passes for $15.

Another popular spooky attraction is the Walk of the Dead Haunted Trail returning for it’s third weekend. Organized by AGES Community, the Walk of the Dead located behind Lakeside Splashzone is held from 7:00 pm to midnight October 19th and 20th and is $15 per person.

Also, make sure to make it out to Corpus Christi’s “Vendor-Fest” Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The church will feature several crafters and vendors selling items, you can also grab lunch and enjoy some early Christmas Shopping.

The Knox-Galesburg Symphony returns to the Orpheum Theatre stage this weekend featuring the first of four guest conductors vying for the KGS Maestro position. The October 20th performance will feature Christopher Stanichar at the helm. Stanichar is the current North West Iowa Symphony Orchestra conductor, a visiting professor at Northern State University in South Dakota, and conducts the Worthington Area Symphony Orchestra in Minnesota. He tells WGIL all the symphonies he conducts are rural area orchestras – much like Galesburg. “Artistically, Knox-Galesburg Symphony is well placed to do some really amazing things in the next several years,” Stanichar said. “There’s an excitement around the orchestra. That was one of the major attractions for me.” When asked on making an impact, Stanichar said: “I would love to see a lot of audience growth – people who come to the orchestra who want to hear some different sources of programmings. In addition to the great classics, get to hear some more pops-style concerts that they might not have expected before.” The Knox-Galesburg Symphony Masterworks 1 series: “America the Beautiful” begins at 7:30 pm on October 20th. For tickets, you can visit the Orpheum Box Office, www.galesburgorpheum.org, or www.kgsymphony.org.
