22-year-old Galesburg man facing handful of drug felonies

A 22-year-old Galesburg man is facing felony drug charges following an arrest Thursday night.

Isiah V. Booker faces a class 3 felony of possession of methamphetamine, and two class 4 felonies of possession of a controlled substance.

Booker made a video court appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Friday where Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh set his bond at $10,000 and appointed the public defender for the case. As a condition of his bail, Booker will have to undergo a substance abuse evaluation within 14 days of his release.

According to Galesburg Police, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of East North and North Seminary Streets where the odor of cannabis was detected emanating from the vehicle driven by Booker.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of pills that would later be identified as Alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance, more pills that were identified as Tramadol HCL, two glass drug pipes, and a clear plastic container that contained a crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Along with the discovery, officers found $73 in cash and an additional $600 in fake hundred dollar bills. Each of the fake hundreds had the same serial number, had a torn section in the same area, and smelled of dish soap as if it had been washed. The fake hundreds were identified as being the same as some found in the area recently.

Booker and the passenger of the vehicle were taken into custody, but it was he who took ownership of all that was found.

Booker will be back in Knox County Court for a bail rehearing on Wednesday and a preliminary hearing on October 29th.
