District 205 to discuss tentative tax levy tonight

The District 205 Board of Education meets tonight with discussion planned for the district’s tentative tax levy.

Last year the Board did not increase their tax rate but an estimated increase in Equalized Assessed Value of properties was expected to yield 205 an additional $357,000.

Member Wayne Statham was the lone opposition, saying even with leaving the rate alone essentially it would amount to a tax increase for those whose property value increased.

The board will also consider adopting special education behavioral intervention guidelines.

The policy reads that non-restrictive interventions are preferred when possible and what are called “restrictive” interventions should only be used temporarily and with caution.

Examples of restrictive interventions include exclusion from extracurricular activities, more than nine days suspension or manual restraint.

Members are also expected to a hear a presentation on the district’s finances and approve a district audit that’s been completed.

Also on the agenda is the board approving a three-year lease on Nissan Centras for driver’s education classes.

The leases on the cars currently in use are set to expire in October, a pair of Nissan Altimas.

Galesburg Nissan was the only company to submit a bid, which is for about $17,500.

Also set for discussion is a Galesburg Education Association grievance and over a communications director.
