Walking, singing, and eating through your weekend

The weekend is upon us and Saturday morning might be looking perfect for a walk.

That’s the day of A Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an event that’s held annually in over 600 communities around the nation.

Participates of course walk on the day, and have been raising funds for the cause which will go towards care, support and research.

Organizers say participation alone can help change the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in a community, so anyone is welcome to come and walk.

They’ll get things going at Shelter 1 at Lake Storey starting at 8:00 a.m.

Also Saturday gospel trio Joyful Noyz will perform it what they list at their “farewell concert””, set to take place at the First Church of God on Harrison Street starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Jimmy Smith will in concert as well and food will be served at 5 p.m. before the presentation.

Also this Saturday the Young Professionals of Galesburg are planning their second annual Food Truck and Art Fest downtown in Parking Lot H from 1 to 11 p.m.

The entrance fee is $5 with most food items costing between $3 and $5 and there will also be plenty to drink and entertainment from Trailer Parke and The Rockin’ Papas.

Then on Sunday if you’re belly isn’t full enough head over to the Taste of Canton, where a smorgasbord of the community’s eateries selections will be available.

Taste of Canton will also have a ton of beer and wine choices, live entertainment and will go from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Big Creek Park.

Also the OSF Western Region Healthcare Homecare and Hospice quarter auction will get underway at 6 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

This event is how the organization raises money to provide patients who are going through a rough time or have a special need to fulfill end of life wishes.

More events can be found on our community events page.
