City hosts transit fair Wednesday

The hope isn’t to just bring more awareness — and more riders — to the City of Galesburg’s transit system, but to also bring more awareness to where the system can take you.

Galesburg Transit — comprising of the city’s bus and HandiVan services — will be hosting a fair Wednesday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Galesburg Transit bus garage and headquarters on Monmouth Boulevard.

The agency’s “Transit Fair” will feature a number of local businesses and other agencies — all of which you can get to by taking the bus or HandiVan — according to Dedra Mannon, the city’s HandiVan coordinator.

Mannon says they want to become friendlier with local businesses. She also says that the ROE 33 and Discovery Depot will be there as well.

Galesburg Transit provided an estimated 187,000 rides last year, funded in small part by fares, but largely from state and federal funds.

You can find out more about the Transit Fair on WGIL.com’s Community Events page.
