Bustos bill to rename Alpha Post Office after fallen soldier clears House

Rep. Cheri Bustos is sponsoring a bill to rename the Alpha Post Office after a man who sacrificed his life for his country. The bill passed the U.S. House Thursday and next heads to the Senate to name the office after Captain Joshua E. Steele.

Steele grew up on a farm in North Henderson and in 2007 was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army.

Sadly in January of that year, after deployments to Iraq and the Republic of Georgia, Steele was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Steele was only 26 years old.

Bustos says the renaming will be a reminder for Alpha residents of Steele’s courage and sacrifice

This follows bills already enacted into law that have renamed other post offices in the 17th District after fallen soldiers.

In July of this year Bustos sponsored designating the Pekin Post Office as the “Lance Corporal Jordan S. Bastean Post Office” and last month the Fairview Post Office was renamed after Sgt. Douglas Riney.
