Applications being accepted for Galesburg Help Eliminate Lead Program

Applications are being accepted from Galesburg residents who think they may qualify for a grant aimed at addressing lead hazards in home.21 homes are expected to be helped by this particular grant, funded through the state and administrated by the City of Galesburg and Western Illinois Regional Council.

The grant totals $693,000 with a half million dollars of that going to mitigating lead hazards in homes and the rest going to fund a study in partnership with the University of Illinois Chicago.

To qualify the property must be in Galesburg city limits, be an owner occupied home with a presence of lead paint hazards and the residents must meet the state’s low-income guidelines for Knox County.

Homes with children that have a blood lead level of 5 micrograms per deciliter and higher will receive priority, with

Selected participants will also have the choice of having before and after blood screenings at the Knox County Health Center.
