Orpheum facade work nearly done; another documentary tonight

Progress is being made on the Orpheum Theatre facade. Wednesday, August 29th the historic theatre swapped out lift trucks to finish the top portion of the cleaning and restoration effort to the front of the building. Executive Director Kevin Maynard tells WGIL the work should be done in a couple weeks. “Right now the purple inserts on our marquee aren’t there because they’re being replaced,” Maynard said. “I think those will be arriving this week – beginning of next. With the marquee being repainted, and the front of the building being cleaned, once those inserts get in there – that thing is really going to pop.”

Thursday, August 30th the Orpheum will be featuring the documentary: “RBG.” RBG explores the life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsburg developed a legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon, and her rise to the nation’s highest court has been largely unknown. “We just realized that there’s some really great documentaries out there, some really great stories that we’d like to share with our community that aren’t coming locally,” he added. “If we can fill that void, a movie is an easy thing to slot in to kind of expose a new thing.” Tickets for RBG are five dollars and will be available at the door. Maynard encourages you to come early if you plan on buying a ticket at the door. The film begins at 7:00 pm.
