Bond set for two people arrested on meth charges

More meth was seized by Galesburg police officers and two more people were arrested this weekend.

Detention hearings were held Monday afternoon in Knox County Circuit Court.

Bond was set at $30,000 for 36-year-old Claudia C. Fox by Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh. Bond  was set six-times higher than what the state’s attorney’s office had recommended for bail. Cavanaugh cited Fox’s pending court cases and petitions to revoke in his reasoning for setting the bail so high, saying she, “got a lot going on.”

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to McDonald’s on North Henderson Street to investigate a suspicious vehicle.

Officers discovered Fox to be asleep in the running vehicle and initially suspected her of driving under the influence, but a field sobriety test indicated she was not.

After finding out she had a suspended license and admitting to driving the vehicle, she was arrested.

A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic baggie containing half a gram of what would test positive for meth, three glass pipes, a digital scale, and what was suspected to be a drug ledger.

Fox will be back in court for a bond rehearing on August 31st, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 11th. The public defender was appointed to represent her in her case.

29-year-old John D. Haun of Alexis had his bond set at $30,000 by Cavanaugh. He faces a meth possession charge. Cavanaugh set his bond lower than the state’s recommended $50,000.

Police reports indicate that officers received information that a vehicle reported stolen out of Warren County had been located in the 100-block of North Arthur Avenue.

Officers verified the vehicle was stolen and made contact with the resident at the address. The driver of the truck was identified as Haun, who was also the son of the individuals who reported it stolen.

It was noted in the police report that while on the phone with his parents, Haun was cleaning out the cab of the truck. Officers allegedly saw Haun conceal a glass pipe used for “ingesting illicit drugs.” He was arrested and the pipe was confiscated, along with two zip top bags, one of which contained a white powder that would later field test positive for meth.

Haun will have a Bond rehearing on August 31st, then be back in court September 10th.
