Opioid Overdose training and education ongoing

The Galesburg Fire Department along with the Human Service Center of Peoria are providing free opioid education and overdose prevention seminars. The Robert Young Center in Peoria, The City of Galesburg Police Department, Bridgeway, and the Knox County Health Department have been partnered up since late spring to offer sessions to the community. Whether you are affected directly or not, it plays a big role in reducing the stigma and stereotype of someone who is. The training is made possible through a federal grant received by the Peoria Human Service Center. The training is set up for the first Tuesday of every month to provide the education on Naloxone training as well as distribution. Emergency, first responders and community members are all welcome to attend. All participants will receive a free Naloxone (Narcan) kit. September 4th sessions will be held at Central Station from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the Brooks St. Station from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and at the Fremont St. Station from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
