Bond set for Galesburg woman on several drug charges

A Galesburg woman made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on felony charges of meth delivery, possession of meth, and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.

30-year-old Jessica L. Garner appeared before Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh on the drug charges. The most severe of them, the Class 2 Meth Delivery charge, could see Garner sentenced to 3-7 years in the Department of Corrections.

Recommendation from the state was for a bond of $50,000, however, Judge Cavanaugh set it at $100,000 in the case.

Cavanaugh also appointed the public defender to represent her in the case.

According to police reports, Galesburg Police officers arrested Garner for outstanding warrants in Knox and McDonough Counties on Tuesday around 4:23 p.m. She was observed walking down Monroe Street in the 700-block with a multi-colored backpack.

She was searched, to which officers found nothing. However, a search of her backpack yielded several different drugs. Inside of a metal tin were 5 tramadol hydrochloride pills, 24 lorazepam pills, and a cellophane wrapper containing orange powder and an orange pill that was identified as diazepam.

Also found were nine smaller plastic bags of different colors that contained residue that field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. Inside of another container marked “Snus” was a white chunky substance that would field test positive for meth and weigh in at 2.5 grams.

Additional contents of the bag included cannabis drug pipes, razor blades, a piece of aluminum foil, a mirror with visible residue and two hypodermic needles with visible blood inside.

The outstanding warrant in McDonough County was for possession of contraband in a penal institution and for meth possession, and in Knox County for Possession of Meth.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 11th in Garner’s case.
