Officers investigate weekend “shots fired” call

Galesburg police officers investigated a “shots fired” call early Sunday morning near the intersection of Harvey and Monroe streets.

According to reports officers were dispatched to the 1000-block of Monroe Street where a resident said they had heard what sounded like two male subjects arguing followed by a bang and a loud scream.

Another individual stated they saw two vehicles exit the Steak N Shake parking lot at a high rate of speed and then heard the bang.

Officers responded to the restaurant where a third individual stated they observed several males arguing inside before departing east on to Harvey in vehicles. The indication from the report was that one of the individuals departed on a bicycle.

At the intersection of Monroe and Harvey, officers found wadding fired from a shotgun shell and observed the east facing stop sign to have damage from birdshot.

No victims had been reported to police as of 9:45 Monday morning.
