The Regional Office of Education is hosting Summer FEST Friday (August 3rd) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lakeside.

Cruise night will also hold 50/50 drawings, food vendors, and music entertainment by Eternity Road.

Saturday, August 4th participants raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and run relay-style from Galesburg to Peoria. St. Jude Runs is one of the country’s foremost charity running events.  Organizers Marcy Davis, who runs in the event, has a son who was diagnosed with Leukemia and Pam Orwig who’s son was born with a malignant tumor and later diagnosed with cancer say the Galesburg to Peoria run was the first satellite run for St. Jude’s.
Pam tells WGIL it’s a yearlong fundraising and planning effort that all goes in to one day. “Our goal is to leave at 6:00 in the morning from the parking lot across from the radio station,” Orwig said. “We run on (US Highway) 150 for the most part. We head through Knoxville. We stop in Williamsfield for lunch – with stops in Brimfield and Kickapoo. We run in to the parking lot (in Peoria) at around 4:45 pm. Then the runs will kick off the telethon at 6:30 pm.”  To donate or get involved, visit www.stjuderuns.org.

One of the largest social groups in the area is celebrating it’s 20th year – the Piecemakers Quilt Guild. The bi-annual quilt show “Summer Nights” comes to Knoxville High School on Saturday August 4th beginning at 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Diane Federow with the guild says the show will feature pieces from the group’s 108 members and more. “We have 300 pieces from our members,” Federow said. “We have 106 that are going to be judged by Susan Swenson – she is also an appraiser. She’ll be doing appraisals during our weekend also. Our big event: Hoffman Fabric International Challenge Trunk Show. A lot of our vendors will also have quilts. So there will be about 400 quilts to look at, actually.” Quilts can also be appraised for $50. The show will also feature shop vendors from West Central Illinois Treasure Chest, Gifted Quilter Boutique Raffle, demonstrations and more. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children age six to twelve.

The Galesburg Rescue Mission’s Middle of the Summer Garage Sale will set up shop Saturday, August 4th starting at 9:00 am. Located at the Galesburg Rescue Mission, on East Third in Galesburg, the sale will feature over 21,000 square feet of merchandise for purchase. The sale runs until 1:00 pm.

Fire Fest 2018 returns to Wataga Saturday, August 4th for the second year. Oneida-Wataga Fireman Ryan Wessling tells WGIL the department hopes Fire Fest becomes an annual event – and this year it has expanded. “We’re raising money for the department as a whole,” Wessling said. “It will kick off at 3:00 pm with everything – that’s when we’ll start serving food. The DJ will start, the bounce houses will be there. I know the thing I enjoyed the most last year was the silent auction. I know the DJ will be bringing a “kids’ hour” of dance. The DJ will also be having a few competitions going on where you can win some gift certificates and gift cards.” The band Past Curfew will perform beginning at 7:00 pm, the silent auction will end at 8:00 pm, and the event will run until 11:00 pm.
