Groundbreaking for Fareway in Monmouth set for Thursday, August 2nd.

It was announced in mid-October last year that Fareway grocery store was planning on coming to Monmouth. After working with the City of Monmouth and Monmouth College for the past year – the new store is set for a groundbreaking Thursday, August 2nd beginning at 10:00 am. With locations in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota, the 119th branch will be located near the intersection of North 6th Street and US Highway 34 in the maple city. Fareway COO and President Frederick R. Greiner in a statement, said the company looks forward to serve the area residents of Monmouth. The new store is expected to be a 21,000 square foot facility. The groundbreaking for the store will begin tomorrow Thursday morning beginning at 10:00 am featuring speakers: Mayor Rod Davies, City of Monmouth Interim City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher, Executive Director of the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce Amy Patterson and Fareway President Frederick Greiner. Davies in a statement said, that “the residents and shoppers of Monmouth will benefit from this new private investment in the community, which will result in the recapture of local sales tax revenues.” The store is anticipated to be complete early next year.
