EPA issues administrative citation to pair of Roseville residents

Two Roseville residents received an Administrative Citation by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

According to a press release, the citation is in regards to violations of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act.

William and Rose Robinson of Roseville were cited $9,000 for allegedly open dumping and open burning of demolition debris and other waste including tires and furniture.

Used tires had also been allowed to accumulate water.

Open dumping and burning of waste is illegal and negatively affects the health and well-being of neighbors and the environment.

Water in tires serves as a prime breeding habitat for disease-carrying mosquitos.

Administrative Citations for open dumping, open burning, and allowing water to accumulate in tires carry a fine of $1,500 for each and double fine amounts on repeated violations.

People receiving a citation can appeal to the Illinois Pollution Control Board within 35 days of its issuance.

Residents who observe open dumping or burning can report it to a local law enforcement, the local public health department, or the Illinois EPA.
