Bond set for individuals in weekend meth busts

Bond was set for two Galesburg people who were arrested this weekend on meth related charges.

33-year-old Tawny J. Patrick of Galesburg made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court where her bond was set at $3,000 and Judge Raymond Cavanaugh recommended she seek substance abuse treatment.

It is alleged that Patrick had possession of a white crystallized substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine.

According to reports, officers conducted a traffic stop Sunday afternoon around the area of East Berrien Street and South Whitesboro. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle in the area that Patrick was allegedly sitting, prompting a search of her and her purse – where officers found a corner bag containing the substance.

She claimed the meth was not hers, but was unsure how it got in her purse.

43-year-old Ronald E. Smith Jr. also made a video court appearance with Judge Cavanaugh. Bond in this case was set at $3,000. Smith also had several warrants against him in Knox County, and because of that he had an additional bail amount of $13,000 against him.

It is alleged that Smith was dumpster diving at Goodwill at 1338 North Henderson Street when officers were dispatched and he was arrested.

Two backpacks were found next to his wallet and cell phone which police reports indicate were set aside from the garbage thrown out of the dumpster.

A search of the bags yielded 2.1 grams of methamphetamine, 9 grams of cannabis, a clear smoking pipe, and a gold colored “hitter pipe” and a pair of brass knuckles.

Along with the meth charges, he faces a possession of a weapon felony charge.

A bond rehearing was scheduled for Wednesday, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 13th.
