Weaver sizes up gubernatorial race

With the gubernatorial race just a few months away, one local lawmakers sizes up what will surely be one of the most expensive Governor’s races in history.

37th District State Senator Chuck Weaver says that the race for Governor between incumbent Bruce Rauner and Democrat challenger J.B Pritzker is a referendum on Speaker Michael Madigan.

“You know there’s a power struggle in our state, but I still want to be sensitive to the great folks in my district that are Democrats,” Weaver said. “I’m a very conservative fiscal and social conservative but I still respect folks from the other side, but the reality is Speaker Madigan has been in charge too long and this vote is a vote for whether you believe his control of the state has been right or wrong. If you believe our state is in a good condition: you keep Madigan in power. If you believe it isn’t we gotta do something to get him out. I think that’s what your governor election is all about.”

Weaver’s district includes a large portion of Knox County and runs from his hometown of Peoria all the way west to Mercer County and the Mississippi River.
