Bond set in Monday Armed Violence case

A 22-year-old Galesburg man had his bond set in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday for a Class X Armed Violence charge stemming from an arrest Sunday morning.

Jacob J. Garcia of Galesburg was charged with the Class X, as well as three counts of a Class 4 charge of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – for not having a Firearm Owners Identification card, another Class 4 charge of Manufacturing/Delivery of Cannabis between 10 and 30 grams and a possession of cannabis misdemeanor.

Garcia made a video appearance with Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh where bond was set at $30,000 and a public defender was appointed.

According to police reports, he was arrested following a traffic stop in the 1500-block of East Main Street.

Reports indicate that Garcia admitted to police he had a gun on him, saying he had been robbed before. He was found with a silver model Barreta 950.

He was also found with over $900 in his possession. A search of him and the vehicle turned up a white canister with suspected cannabis as well as a digital scale, and a silver smoking device and several other items.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Garcia for August 14th.
