205 to consider approval of building service planning with Legat Architects

The approval of a services agreement for a new facility improvement plan will be considered at Monday night’s District 205 School Board Meeting.

At the June meeting, Superintendent Dr. John Asplund told the board that re-examining the district’s building study was something that was brought up during the community outreach meetings during the fall of 2017.

Legat Architects was one of three architectural firms that were considered at last month’s board meeting for the building improvement plan.

According to board documents, Legat Architects will walk the district facilities and assess documented Health-Life-Safety violations, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering needs, among other things, then compile a list of recommendations to the board.

Documents indicate that the total cost for the facilities improvement plan will be in the range of $135,000.

Also on the agenda for the meeting is the consideration for a dual credit agreement between Carl Sandburg College and the Galesburg Area Vocational Center.

The agreement would allow high school students at GVAC to simultaneously earn both high school and college-level course work.

The goal would be to reduce unnecessary redundancies of student coursework as they transition from high school into college.

Board documents indicate that classes include Automotive Technology, Nutrition, Welding, Information and Communication Technology, as well as Electrical Fundamentals, Introduction to Pharmacology and Medical Terminology.

It was also included on the agreement that CNC Operation courses would be offered as well, but that was pending a location agreement being approved.

The school board meets at Monday at 6:00 p.m. for a closed session, with the open session scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at the district facilities on Harrison Street.
