Planning underway for Galesburg’s hosting of state-wide arts conference

Galesburg’s Tourism Director Michelle Kim is hard at work, along with many others, planning a bi-annual arts conference that will be held in Galesburg this fall. It was announced in February that the One State Together in the Arts Conference will be held in town on Oct. 22 and 23. The conference will utilize spaces as varied as the Knox campus, The Orpheum Theatre, Prairie Players Civic Center, Discovery Depot and maybe some more yet to be determined. Kim says they’ll shift conference participants from one location to the next.

Kim explains, “Really allowing them to experience the different unique venues that we have here in town, allowing them to stretch their legs, and not be sitting in a ballroom or conference room all day.”

Kim says they were told one of the reasons Galesburg’s proposal won was because it allowed attendees to move around the town. She does admit it will be a logistical challenge in planning. But she says that when four conference delegates visited Monday and toured the downtown they were pleased with what they found. Kim says they talked about how excited they were to visit again and to host the One State Together in the Arts Conference this fall.
