Bail set for Galesburg woman’s battery and car theft case

Bond has been set at $20,000 for a Galesburg woman on felony charges of battery and motor vehicle theft.

57-year-old Kathleen A. Beauprez made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court with Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh on Wednesday. As a stipulation of her bail, Cavanaugh added that she have no contact with the victim.

She faces a Class 2 Felony of possession of a stolen vehicle, and a Class 3 Felony of aggravated battery.

According to police reports, Beauprez was arrested following an investigation Tuesday night that began on in the 700-block of N. Cherry Street.

Officers responded to the address for a report of a stolen vehicle. There a 79-year-old man told police that Beauprez, who was renting a room from him, had came to the residence intoxicated and demanded money from him, then attacked him.

She allegedly clawed at his back, causing him to bleed. He was initially resistant to call police until his vehicle was taken. He said no one else had access to the vehicle and no one had permission, but he remembered his keys going missing after she had been in the residence.

A witness that officers interviewed had talked to Beauprez on the phone, to which she allegedly admitted to taking the vehicle.

A short time later officers learned the vehicle had been returned to the residence. The victim told police he had retrieved it from a house located in the 200-block of N. Broad Street.

Officers made contact with Beauprez at the residence on Broad Street. She made allegedly comments regarding the missing vehicle before being apprehended.

Her preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 17th.
