2 arrested on separate burglary charges

Two individuals have been arrested on burglary charges stemming from separate incidents in Galesburg.

The first individual was arrested Sunday afternoon. According to police reports, a subject was seen leaving a residence in the 300-block of N. Chambers Street at around 2:20 with a wooden table. Police found the subject on N. Pearl in possession of the table.

A witness told police he had spoken with the man, identified as 45-year-old Thomas L. Hatfield Jr. , who stated that he had permission from the owner to take items from the yard. The alleged told police the table was his girlfriends and he was to refinish it.

He added that him and his girlfriend got into an argument and he left her vehicle with the table. He told police he was cutting through backyards to stay out of the sun.

The owner arrived on scene and told police he did not give Hatfield permission to enter the residence or to remove any items from the property.

The second incident occurred Monday morning on N. Broad Street.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to the 200-block of N. Broad at 1:59 in response to a burglary from a motor vehicle call.

Police spoke with the victim who told officers she had a pink 3-pocket wallet taken from her truck. Inside the wallet was identification, medication, and cash.

She suspected 57-year-old Katrina M. Hainline was responsible for the theft, even though she did not witness her commit the crime. She said that she had gotten into a verbal argument with Hainline before she left.

Officers learned that Hainline had ran to Walgreens on West Main Street. A pharmacist there confirmed to police that Hainline had been in to pick up medication, and had been seen with a pink 3-pocket wallet.

Later in the night officers would learn that the wallet had been discarded into a trash can outside of the Walgreens.

Hainline denied ever taking the wallet several times during the investigation.

Both individuals await an appearance in Knox County Circuit Court.
