According to an Illinois State Police news release, a Nissan Pickup truck, while traveling west on I-74 lost control for unknown reasons and drove off the road into the northern ditch. The pickup truck came to a rest in the tree line. The driver, 68 year old Ronald B. McElroy of Elmwood was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. The passenger of the truck, 66 year old Richard Hendricks of Sarasota, Florida was treated and released at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time. A Wednesday, June 20th crash resulted in several tickets being issued to a Galesburg man. According to police reports, 49 year old James G. Black failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Academy and Losey streets, struck the font bumper of a truck, then came to a stop on top of a sedan north of Losey street. The incident happened during a thunderstorm. An individual was seen running from the scene of the crash and into a nearby residence. When Black was tracked down by Galesburg Police, he initially told officers his truck had been stolen and crashed. Black could not explain to officers how he knew the truck had crashed if it were stolen. Officers also reported that Black was wet with grass on his feet. Officers also noted that Black had a red mark on his arm – which Black said was from being stabbed. GPD told Black the wound wasn’t consistent with a stab wound. Black was charged with misdemeanor failure to give information/render aid, failure to reduce speed and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was later released from the Knox County jail on a notice to appear on the offenses.
