Knox County labor force grows from April to May

Knox County has 48 more people with jobs than last year. After a long stretch of a shrinking labor force modest gains are starting to be seen in terms of labor force and amount of people employed. Knox’s unemployment rate has steadily been shrinking for over a year but still Knox’s gains in the number of employed are overshadowed by neighboring counties. Looking at Illinois as a whole the state unemployment rate is 3.5 percent and there are nearly 64,000 more employed this May than last. The City of Galesburg’s unemployment rate is at 4.5 percent practically the same as it was last May while Illinois as a whole dropped almost a whole percentage point.
