Galesburg teen arrested for possession of stolen firearm

A traffic stop in Galesburg this weekend led to the seizure of two guns from a teenager – one of which was had been reported stolen out of Mercer County.

Around 12:30 Sunday morning officers observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and disregarding a stop sign, before performing a traffic stop near the intersection of West Main and Olive streets.

Reports indicate that police detected an odor of cannabis and began performing probable cause searches on the occupants.

A 17-year-old Galesburg teen was searched, to which officers allegedly found a gun tucked in the waistband of his jeans. A second gun was discovered in the pocket of gym shorts he was wearing under his jeans.

Reports indicate that the teen had been convicted of a felony in 2016 in Warren County. He was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a weapon – all felonies.

Found in the vehicle was 9.5 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and empty plastic baggies.

He was processed at the Knox County Jail and then transported to the Mary Davis Home to be held.
