Tribute to honor the fallen comes to Galesburg Friday, June 15th.

A nation-wide initiative for fallen soldiers makes its way into Galesburg on Friday.

America’s Run for the Fallen is a tribute that started on April 7th in Fort Irwin California. George Lutz is the founder of Honor & Remember – a parent to Run for the Fallen. He says they have identified over 20,000 service men and women who have served and died in what they call the largest fallen veteran tribute ever conceived in our lifetime. “We created a tribute that would include the names of every fallen service member in the last 18 years,” he said. “(We) place them on a trail through 19 states over five months, and over 6,000 miles. We call their names out loud as we go.” Every mile, a ceremony is held and a marker is placed for a fallen soldier. Locally, the route travels east down Highway 67 around Kirkwood, south of Monmouth, then north of Cameron to 1-64 east into Galesburg. Runners will make their way downtown to Lincoln Street where it will connect with Highway 34 on through Wataga then Oneida and beyond. A ceremony will be held Friday evening at 6:00pm at the Lincoln Park Veterans’ Memorial. To donate, sponsor, run, or to see the route visit America’s Run for the Fallen website.
