Good food, good causes, and great music hit the area this weekend

Start Sunday, June 10th off right with a breakfast for a good cause. The Appleton Fire Department Breakfast starts Sunday morning at 7:00 am until 11:00 am. For $7- $3 for kids, fill up on pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy.

Make your way to Galva on Sunday, June 10th as the Levitt Concert series continues at Wiley Park.  Starting at 6:00 pm, Evan Bartels and the Stoney Lonesomes featuring honest, story-telling, Americana music will take the stage. Recently, Bartels, a Nebraska native, has been featured on NPR Music’s Night Owl in New York City. At 7:00 pm, Austin, Texas natives Mike and the Moonpies will take over featuring blue collar honky tonk music. Mike and the Moonpies played over 180 shows last year across the nation- from Austin’s legendary Broken Spoke to the White Horse. Next Sunday, June 17th, the Levitt Music Series will feature 2-time Grammy winning group Sones De Mexico Ensemble.
Don’t forget after the weekend winds down, Art Camp registration begins at the Galesburg Civic Art Center on Monday. Students entering 5th through 8th grade can sign-up for Painting sessions starting July 9th, followed by photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Sessions are $50 each if registered by June 16th.

Construction on the “Gates Bridge” on US 150 may have deterred traffic, but the Gates Vendor Fair is full steam ahead this weekend. Sunday, June 10th starting at 9:00 am the Gates Rubber Company parking lot will be filled with plenty of activities for the whole family. With all proceeds to benefit Alzheimer’s research, the event will feature crafts, face painting, a bake sale, dunk tank, cake walk and vendor fair. Food will be available from Smokin’ Willies Food Truck – and the fair last all day until 5:00 pm.

It’s Kids Engineer day Saturday, June 9th at the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum. Starting at 10:30 am, June’s Kids Engineer is a model wooden train construction. The cost is $1 plus regular depot admission. For more information on upcoming events at Discovery Depot’s website.
The 8th Annual Rebels for a Cure Golf Outing returns to Laurel Greens west of Knoxville on Saturday. Beginning at 11:00 am, you can work on your swing while helping to benefit a good cause.
All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
The cost is $200 per 4-person golf team and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, and dinner.
