One arrested on DUI following vehicle vs. building accident

A Galesburg man was arrested early Wednesday morning for driving under the influence following a call of car striking a building.

Officers responded to Circle K at 501 North Henderson Street at 2:44 for the vehicle verse building accident.

According to reports, police arrived to find the vehicle had snapped the yellow concrete pylon and struck the south side of the building.

The alleged driver, 19-year-old Dmaurien E. Collins, told police he did not have a license and was not an experienced driver.

Allegedly Collins became angry with Galesburg Fire Department and Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service personnel who arrived to assist police.

A field sobriety test was conducted, to which officers concluded Collins was inebriated. He admitted to have 3 or 4 drinks, but provided a breath sample where he blew a 0.109 blood alcohol content level.

He was turned over to jail staff for processing.
